Return to the Hotel.
Visit to the Buenos Aires Fruit Horticulture Market, near General Paz Av.: it is the biggest market in the Argentine Republic. The possibility of buying without intermediaries, plentiful offers, good prices and quality, make businesspeople, buyers and tourists enthusiastic because they are interested in knowing about our agriculture. The Buenos Aires Central Market is the biggest concentration center of fruits, vegetables and fresh fishing products. Nearly 800 traders serve buyers and show the best of each crop. Everyday, 900 trucks arrive at the Market with first quality merchandise only. Since every premise is practically a market, there is a lot of competition and a great variety of products.
Prices are established in accordance to the law of supply and demand, which creates a very attractive competitive environment. The Market also offers a regional economies pavilion that permanently aims to the promotion of products from all the Argentinean provinces.
This allows us to know the country’s fruit and horticultural aspect in just one Market. Likewise, an inspection work of the fruits and vegetables is carried out. They are checked in a laboratory in charge of specialized analysis. This area is managed by an Agriculturist, who also is in charge of ensuring the SENASA rules imposed in the Central Market.
The SENASA is an acronym for the phrase: Servicio Nacional de Sanidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria, which means “National Service of Food and Agriculture Health and Quality”.
There are fruits and vegetables from all kind, class and size. There are also fishing products, cheeses, salami and lots of rural fruits that are directly sold to the market’s highest bidder.
Finally, we will visit the Argentinean Corn Exchange. We will be able to appreciate the way in which Argentina (a privileged country in terms of grain production in an international level) manages the activity. It is the oldest entity of the country. It deals with the whole agricultural sector: agribusinesses, consumables, producers, stockpile workers, real state brokers, flour mills, oil industries and exporters that execute transactions in the Exchange. It approximately commercializes a loaded volume of 6,000,000 tons of grain; being the Corn Exchange of Buenos Aires the first link of the agricultural trade.
We start visiting the entity installments, witnessing the exciting transactions on the trading floor: buyer and seller companies shout at each other in order to close deals. These are immediately reflected in an electromagnetic board. The way in which the Exchange and the Mercado a Término (business and transactions company) actions and functions in the economy of Argentina as well as all over the world, will be explained. At the end of the visit, an internal institutional video of the Corn Exchange will be showed.
During the video, you will appreciate everything related to this activity, with useful images that help you understand the function and importance of the Agricultural Market of Argentina. This is the end of the tour.
